About the therapy
Light, at the level of the cell
Red light therapy, also called photobiomodulation, uses particular wavelengths of red (630–660 nm) and near-infrared (810–850 nm) light. Unlike ultraviolet light, these wavelengths do not burn the skin. They are absorbed within cells, where they are thought to support the mitochondria that produce the body's energy.
Photobiomodulation has been studied for several decades for skin, muscle recovery and joint comfort, and research continues into other uses.
Our dedicated room uses full-body panels arranged around you, so light reaches the whole body evenly in a single 20-minute session.
The light
Two wavelengths, two depths
The panels deliver both at once.
630–660 nm · visible
Red light
Acts mainly in the outer layers of the skin, which is why it is most often used for skin tone, texture and healing.
- Skin tone and texture
- Fine lines
- Healing of minor marks and scars
810–850 nm · invisible
Near-infrared
Travels further into the body, reaching muscle and the tissue around joints, and is the wavelength most used for recovery.
- Muscle recovery after exercise
- Joint comfort
- General restoration
Why guests choose it
What people use it for
Responses vary from person to person. These are the reasons guests most often give for adding red light therapy to their program.
Skin
A regular course is a popular choice for skin that looks tired, uneven or slow to heal.
Muscle recovery
Athletes use near-infrared light after training to ease soreness and feel ready sooner.
Joint comfort
Guests with stiff or aching joints often include light therapy in their routine.
Rest
Twenty minutes lying still in warm light is, for many, simply a calm pause in the day.
After cold
Paired with cryotherapy, it completes a short recovery ritual of cold followed by light.
No downtime
There is nothing to recover from, so it fits easily around the rest of your day.
