About the test
Beyond the scale
Your weight alone says little about your health. Two people of the same weight can have very different amounts of muscle and fat, and very different health as a result.
The InBody 570 uses multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance. You stand barefoot on the device and hold its handles while a very small electrical current, which you will not feel, passes through the body. Muscle, fat and water conduct it differently, which allows the device to estimate each one for your arms, legs and trunk.
It is used in hospitals, sports teams and research, and gives us a reliable baseline at the start of a program and a simple way to track change.
What it measures
A complete picture
Skeletal muscle
Your total muscle and how it is distributed, revealing differences between sides and early muscle loss.
Body fat
Body fat percentage and where it sits, between the upper body, lower body and trunk.
Visceral fat
An estimate of fat stored around the internal organs, which is linked with metabolic health and cannot be seen on a scale.
Body water
Water inside and outside your cells. The balance between them can reflect inflammation, swelling or overtraining.
Resting metabolism
An estimate of the energy you use at rest, based on your lean mass, which helps us plan your nutrition.
Muscle index
Muscle relative to height, a useful marker of physical function as we age.
Why it helps
Composition, not just weight
A scale or BMI
What you usually see
- Total weight only
- Cannot tell fat loss from muscle loss
- Can misclassify muscular people as overweight
- Says nothing about visceral fat or hydration
InBody 570
What we can show you
- Muscle and fat for each arm, leg and the trunk
- An estimate of visceral fat
- Water inside and outside the cells
- A baseline to measure your progress against
Your test
What to expect
Arrival
Shoes and socks off, and any metal items such as watches put aside.
The measurement
You stand on the device and hold its handles for about a minute, relaxed and still.
Your report
A printed report is ready immediately, and we walk you through it.
Next steps
We suggest how the results can guide your program, and when to measure again.
For the most consistent results, come before a large meal or exercise. Bioelectrical impedance is not suitable if you have a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device, or during pregnancy.
